EcoToxChips mentioned in ECCC Biological Test Method

Biological test method : toxicity tests using aquatic life stages of frogs (Lithobates pipiens) / Method Development and Applications Unit, Science and Technology Branch, Environment and Climate Change Canada.  STB 1/RM/62.  April 2024.

The report mentions EcoToxChips as a "non-traditional endpoint" and that "Tissue samples can also be collected for EcoToxChips, a next-generation toxicogenomics tool that can be used to identify specific molecular mechanisms of action for the assessment of chemicals of concern and environmental management (Basu
et al., 2019; Crump et al., 2023).

EcoToxChip approach to validation highlighted in European Chemicals Agency report

"EcoToxChip Test System may have the potential to prioritize chemicals for management and further testing the effects on growth, survival, reproduction of fish, amphibians and birds. A validation exercise has been launched recently in ENV Canada to investigate its use in regulatory context (Validation of the use of the EcoToxChip test system for regulatory decision-making (genomequebec.com). Similar exercise could be done for REACH substances"

An investment of nearly $16.5 million for health and environmental solutions

Génome Québec
April 18, 2023

"
This project aims to advance the existing EcoToxChip Test System so that it can be accessible, while also being consistent and reliable for informing regulatory decisions.  The goal is, in partnership with Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Science and Technology Branch, to validate these tools for use in a range of prioritization and assessment activities under Canada’s Chemicals Management Plan... This new made-in-Canada tool will reduce the cost and time for chemical testing as well as boost Canadian leadership in this area."
